Valerie Amos: 'Security Council must take action to stop violence and suffering in Syria'
The fighting in Syria continues to intensify and the suffering of civilians worsens each day. Due to fighting, humanitarian workers cannot provide help to the people who are in desperate need. This is the message coming from the UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator, Valerie Amos, on Friday morning in the Security Council:
"Last week we had a convoy that was ready to go, but we could not get enough drivers as they fear for their lives."]]
She urged the members of the Security Council to take the necessary action to stop the brutality and violence in Syria:
"..without real and sustained pressure from this council on the government of syria and the opposition groups on the ground it will be impossible to make further progress."]]
