Head of UN Women calls for making 'the world of work' work for women
This year, the UN marks International Women's Day with the theme, 'women in the changing world of work.'
Speaking of today's fast-evolving reality, UN Women Executive Director, Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka, spotlighted the importance of facilitating a more conducive environment for women in the workplace. In a recent interview with UN News, the UN Women chief talked about global endeavours aiming to enhance gender parity, including the 2030 Agenda, policies and laws that promote equal pay for women and men, as well as rights to maternity and paternity leave for childcare.
She also called for collective efforts - not only by the UN, but also governments and businesses - to overcome norms and stereotypes that prevent women from further participation in socio-economic activities.
