Promoting gender equality, UN chief reiterates call for action
Building on his promise to work for gender parity, United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has issued a call for action, as well as for "targets and benchmarks" to measure the progress.
To rally support for the cause, the Secretary-General encouraged more women leaders and more men, to step up for gender equality and women's empowerment.
To build a more conductive environment for change, the UN chief further emphasized the need for a cultural shift in the world, and in the UN.
These remarks were made during Mr. Guterres' address at opening of the 2017 session of the UN Commission on Status of Women, which will last through 24 March in New York.
